The start of the high Pamirs, Sary Tash, Kyrgyzstan… An all-weather road leads to 4700+ meters
The market in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. Still lively along a mile of riverfront despite lots of missing families after 2010 ethnic cleansing. Perfect to fill up your Detours Coffee Bags for the 720 km foodless stretch to Khorog.
The guy I sold my bike to in Dushanbe. You can sell your cheaper mountain bike to a local too, and help the local cycling population.
Watermelons: plentiful everywhere, plenty cheap.
Garm Chasma, one of the many hot springs within easy riding distance from a main paved road. Entrance under $1 US for a private bath.
The top of a Kyrgyz herders’ hut next to their yurt.
